Distinguished Visiting Scholar

Sheila TschinkelA former senior vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta and U.S. Treasury economic advisor in Europe and Asia, Sheila Tschinkel is an authority on economic and financial policy issues. She was recently interviewed about the fate of the economy, whether the United States is headed for a second recession, and the best way to turn the economy around, and in November hosted a Halle Institute conference on macroeconomic policy.

Carrie Wickham researches the origins of political opposition and the rise of Islamic activism in Egypt. She recently wrote about whether a genuine transition to democracy is occurring in Egypt for Al Jazeera.

Tonio Andrade is a historian of China focusing on maritime interconnections in the Early Modern Period. His new book, "Lost Colony: The Untold Story of China's First Great Victory over the West," was published in October.

Clifton Crais is an Africanist specializing in comparative world history, memory, trauma, and narrative. His new book, "Poverty, War, and Violence in South Africa," explores the relationship between colonial conquest and the making of South Africa's rural poor.
