Distinguished Visiting Scholar

Kevin QuarmbyLondon-based actor and scholar Kevin Quarmby is co-director of the World Shakespeare Project with Emory English professor Sheila Cavanaugh, and will offer a new Maymester course, International Shakespeare in a New Media World, later this year. The project, which will soon take Emory students to the Rose Theatre in Kingston upon Thames, was recently featured in an article about Skype collaboration

Carrie Wickham researches the origins of political opposition and the rise of Islamic activism in Egypt. She recently wrote about whether a genuine transition to democracy is occurring in Egypt for Al Jazeera.

Tonio Andrade is a historian of China focusing on maritime interconnections in the Early Modern Period. His new book, "Lost Colony: The Untold Story of China's First Great Victory over the West," was published in October.

Clifton Crais is an Africanist specializing in comparative world history, memory, trauma, and narrative. His new book, "Poverty, War, and Violence in South Africa," explores the relationship between colonial conquest and the making of South Africa's rural poor.
